Big News!

I have had a really great, but crazy week.

I FINALLY got a job! YAY!

I'm so excited about it - I will give more details later when I actually start and decide if it's ok for me to post about work...

So, after finding out I got my job, I packed all of my junk and moved back to Charlotte! I'm so excited to be coming back here for many reasons:

  1. It's finally warm enough to lay out in the sun and I have a pool here!
  2. I love the apartment - high ceilings, fireplace, porch... maybe a tour later?
  3. I like being in charge of my life, rather than have my parents dictate what I do.
  4. Stocking my own kitchen! It's so hard to stay on track when there are yummy treats everywhere...
  5. DVR!
  6. Having a gym just down the steps.
Speaking of a gym - when I got back here I decided that I needed to join one because I really enjoy exercise classes (I had been taking them at my gym at home) - my favorites are cycling and Bodypump. It really makes it a lot easier to get motivated to workout - a lot of times when I'm working out on my own I wimp out. That's not an option in a class.

So, I joined the YMCA because they offer the classes I like and for the month of April there was no joining fee. I figured if I don't like it I can just quit.

I also got my hair done because, I don't know if you noticed in the last post or not, but my hair was in serious need of some help.

So a friend recommend this salon. I thought the name was a bit weird and it's a chain, so I was skeptical. But citysearch had really great reviews, so I took the plunge.

I love the results! All my life I have been struggling to find someone who can cut and highlight my hair well, who actually listens to what I say, and who does it for a fairly reasonable price. Well, I think I've found my girl! I'm SO excited to finally have found someone!

I hope all your weeks have been going well! Have a great weekend!

The Perfect Dress for Wedding Season '08

Yes y'all, while the weather might be finally showing signs of letting up, we all know that bodes the unfortunate return of... dun, dun, dun... WEDDING SEASON.

While I love all the things weddings entail: dressing up (and buying new clothes to dress up in!), seeing old friends and family, and doing so while slightly inebriated from the (hopefully) complimentary beverages; something about all these things coming together lends itself to a distinct feeling of nausea.

Who will be there? Will they think I've gained weight? Will my dress be too revealing? Or too frumpy?

After my first invitation arrived in the mail, I quickly scanned my closet. While I have several conservative dresses, many are too big (yay for getting on track!) and most, after careful consideration, are inappropriate. I initially thought I could wear my cute dress I had planned on wearing to Steeplechase (which just happens to fall on the same day as said wedding) but after a quick re-read of the invite, I find what I thought to be a day, outdoor wedding is actually an evening, indoor wedding. Time to go shopping!

I decided my inspiration would be the turquoise dress Lauren Conrad wore to the teen choice awards. I love the sweet-heart neckline, the draping, and the color.

I wanted something fitted, to show off my figure, but nothing too short, too low-cut, or tooo tight. Ah! So many requirements.

With my deadline quickly approaching, I made the journey to Southpark mall. I tried a plethora of dresses, but most were too informal or not flattering enough to impress long lost friends.

I was searching for nothing short of the perfect dress.

In the last store I entered (my feet were starting to blister from all the shopping), White House Black Market, I happened upon what I think is as close as I could ever get to the perfect dress. Obviously my selection was a bit limited - but I think I did well, especially on my measly budget. I try to stick under $150 for all dresses.

Sorry for the shadow in the pic - my photographer is a bit inexperienced (but thanks L!). I wished the dress had been a brighter color, but I think the bodice detail and fit make up for it. Plus, every girl can always use another great LBD.

Oddly enough, Lauren Conrad turned up to the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday, wearing a verrry similar Foley + Corinna dress:

Luckily, I also own the perfect shoes to match my new dress.

Now, all I have to do is buy the wedding gifts...

Pretty Celebrity Saturday

This week brings us the Gossip Girl cover from NY Magazine.

It's no secret that I LOVE this show, and while I may not agree that it is the "Best Show Ever," I do have to say this cover is pretty hot.

Sunshine Makes Everything Alright

I would apologize for the lack of real posting this week - but it has been absolutely GORGEOUS outside and I have spent every minute in it soaking up the sun with my sister, reading, and watching (and photographing) my pup, Maddie, act like the silly goose she is.

And it has been wonderful.
